Master Plan for Garfield Township

WHEREAS, the Garfield Township Planning Commission has the responsibility and authority per the Township Planning Act, No. 168 of 1959 as amended, to make and adopt a Master Plan for the physical development of Garfield Township and to amend the Plan from time-to-time as needed, and

WHEREAS, Garfield Township and the Garfield Planning Commission have a long history of proactively planning for the future of this community, having adopted Master Plans in1979 and (a more recent update in) 1992, and

WHEREAS, the Garfield Township Planning Commission did prepare and distribute Township -wide a survey seeking input and comment on matters of planning, zoning, growth and change in Garfield Township and relied on the results of that survey to determine possible goals and policies and establish a vision for the future, and

WHEREAS, as a result of all public input obtained and the Commissions study of existing conditions as well as potential changes in this community, it was determined that the most important issue confronting Garfield Township was the potential loss of its rural character, and

WHEREAS, the Garfield Township Planning Commission held two public hearings on the Master Land Use Plan, dated February 5, 2003 and July 22, 2003 at the Garfield Township Hall, and

WHEREAS, the Garfield Township Planning Commission does find that the updated Master Land Use Plan is necessary to achieve a well-balanced mix of developed and undeveloped land uses - residential, non-residential and agricultural/open space lands while maintaining the quality living environment that exists in Garfield Township.

NOW THEREFOR BE IT RESOLVED, that the Garfield Township Planning Commission hereby adopts the updated Master Land Use Plan for Garfield Township, along with all text, maps, charts, graphs, and other descriptive materials contained in the Plan, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an official copy of Master Land Use Plan shall be provided the Garfield Township Board and the Newaygo County Planning Commission.
